Overview

We unveil our remarkable project with the University of Sussex. We not only matched the architect’s vision to perfection but also delivered unmatched value amidst the challenges of a global pandemic.

We secured the contract to supply and install new furniture into a prestigious new building for the University of Sussex by flawlessly aligning with the architect’s vision while offering the most competitive prices and we delivered.

The University of Sussex’s prestigious new building underwent a grand refurbished transformation to vibrant learning spaces, social areas, consulting rooms, training/conference facilities and back office areas. Products were required to meet a detailed architect-led specification template in order to complement the New Build aesthetics and function. Our independence allowed us to source products as listed by the architect ensuring synergy between the design process and the actual delivery of the project without compromising on the design intent.

The university had already invested substantial time and resources in collaboration with the architect and their student connector’s team. It was work alongside a very detailed specification was issued as part of the tender documents. We matched products to the original specification whenever possible, only making changes when the Client Stakeholders envisioned something different, which were always made in full agreement with the project team.

Project Challenges

The contract commenced just prior to the third major lockdown, which made supply chain availability a real challenge, lead times were being challenged through struggles with raw material supply and factory capacities.

Our close communication with the Project Team meant that programming could be made to coincide with availability and any issues were mitigated by way of us being able to source elsewhere if need be.

Risks & How we mitigated them

With global supply chain issues always, we took it upon ourselves to reserve stock of fabrics and materials where possible. This still was no guarantee of supply but gave us the best chance of securing what stock was available ahead of other customer orders.

Prior to installation, we conducted two full site surveys and walkthroughs with the Construction Project Manager. This allowed us to appreciate any site rules and restrictions and we agreed on a programme of deliveries with access routes and a traffic plan.

Added Value

In addition to the main space, the proprietor of the Café services set within the ground floor had not furnished their space and so we were asked to provide a suitable selection of products in time for the imminent opening date.
