Overview

University of East London (UEL) appointed Wagstaff as one of two furniture suppliers under the CCS Framework. The initial design came from IDEA the university’s appointed architect, but we assisted with showroom visits to aid with the specific selection of products and finishes.

Cost-saving Design Scheme

The ERD Pilot Scheme provided a new way of working for staff, providing collaboration, agile and individual workspaces and booths. IDEA designed the space with varied types and heights of furniture. The general theme for furniture selection was to create a relaxed environment. The use of real plywood was chosen for the Spacestor’s booths and railway carriages to help achieve this as well as from a sustainable perspective, even though the cost was greater. To counteract this, we worked in tandem with IDEA and our fit-out team to reduce the costing of the overall design scheme by roughly £100K due to selecting alternative furniture options.
