Kingston University Town House

Project Overview

Location: Kingston University Town House, Kingston Surrey

Design: Grafton Architects

Sector: Education (SUPC Framework)

Scope: Furniture Solutions, Installation and Delivery

Wagstaff was appointed in March 2019 to supply, deliver and install a range of complimentary furniture for the new award-winning Kingston University Town House Library building. Town House is a stunning architectural achievement – an inspirational building over 5 floors with a variety of spaces, which break down barriers and encourage creativity, shared learning and unexpected encounters. The Town House Building houses the university’s main library and archive, alongside dance studios, a theatre, adaptable learning spaces and two cafes.

We worked closely with Kingston University, developing the specification over a 6-month period to finalise the specification and finishes, providing alternative samples to meet the look, feel and environmental credentials of the building whilst keeping within a strict budget.

Delivery was scheduled for November however the product was held until the building was ready following complications on site. We safely held the product in our storage facilities until December/January where we efficiently delivered the complete project in time for the returning students in the New Year.

Products included bespoke study booths, desking, group tables and booths, classroom tables, seating such as Sofas, armchairs, café chairs, conference chairs, meeting chairs, study chairs, office storage units, lockers, racking, credenzas, electrics and task lighting.

With sustainability and community access central to the University’s mission, Town House is a BREEAM Excellent-rated development – a leading sustainability assessment method for master planning projects, infrastructure and buildings. Its design supports and enhances the student experience, with a library that is liberating and open, allowing for informal learning, research and performance to take place organically under one roof.
