Project Overview
Location: Edinburgh Scotland
Architects/Design: Pick Everard
Sector: Research
Scope: Furniture Solutions, Installation and Delivery, Re-use Recycle
After a competitive tender process, we were awarded the loose furniture package for the phase 2 refurbishment of the Northern Research Station, Forest Research. Our main objectives were to provide an inviting/functional work environment for staff moving from other sites into the new building.
Project Insight
We pulled products from a number of manufacturers, to supply the best solutions and to match in with some previously supplied furniture. Our works followed on directly from the contractors so we worked closely with the project manager to ensure a smooth installation which the client was delighted with despite some issues with the main contractor.
Added Value
Although not driven entirely by cost, value for money was key to the government-funded client. We utilised alternatives for the storage and break-out tables which offered a significant saving. A significant portion of the project was to match phase 1, such as the desks and break-out furniture however the current NRS task chairs had received some negative feedback so we specified and sampled the Interstuhl Every chair which was well received.
Results
Our client was happy with the flexibility that we demonstrated and the thoroughness of our work. We have been invited by the designer to tender for further work as a result and our client has also ordered additional furniture as well as requesting products for additional sites.
